I think “passions” is a closely related term to this topic as well. I have often analyzed my earliest memories as a child, wondering if I chose the artist’s path not because I loved a particular craft for its own sake, but because there was no other way to both nurture and exorcise those obsessions which otherwise threatened to obliterate me.
